Previously in both ANGEL and WebCT Learning Management Systems (LMS), I
have created, developed and continuously evaluated several online radiation
therapy courses. The courses I have completed in the Masters of
Education Program in Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis in Educational Technology,
has given me the advanced skills and added confidence to utilize just about
all of the digital teaching and learning tools in the Learning Management Systems.
Some of the components I used was the course calendar, lecture notes, power point presentations, online assignments to be submitted to the dropbox, discussion board, wiki and blog posting assignments. In addition I used the “live” text-chat rooms for weekly course meetings, as well as, creating timed assessments to be completed by a specific deadline.
Here is the Syllabus for one of the online radiation therapy courses I created and taught:

Risks vs. Benefits of On-line or Distance Education
I wrote this paper when I was teaching Distance Education courses:
I believe distance education (DE) has many advantages. DE has been a life saver for the Radiation Therapy Program, it’s current students and past graduates since moving to an on-line format. Beginning in 1985, the Program was centered on less than a dozen on-campus students and in addition about a dozen distance learning (DL) students per year. Back then, the DL students watched videos, listened to cassette tapes, read textbooks and study notes, mailed in assignments and had exams proctored at their clinical sites that were within commuting distance from their home.. In 1999, we had over 25 DL students and only 1 student on campus. Students wanted the education, but did not want to move to Topeka, Kansas to get it. We decided it was time for a change to the on-line education format or there would be an increasing danger of needing to close the Program. The University Administration supported our Program, our department and several other departments across campus that were wanting to move to the on-line education format. Washburn Webtechs and additional ITS staff were hired and Web Course Tools Software was implemented. Our Program was the first on-line Radiation Therapy Program in the United States. This year we have 81 students in over 25 different states.
The Program is staffed by myself on campus, a Clinical Coordinator in Wichita, a full-time on-line
faculty member in New Mexico and an on-line adjunct professor, who was the first Program Director
from 1985-1988, in California. So now you can see how on-line education has been a Win-Win
situation for both the students and the staffing of faculty! Every year I receive thank you letters from students
and past graduates showing their gratitude for having the opportunity of an on-line education because there is
not a Radiation Therapy Program within their commuting distance and sometimes there is not a Program
like this in their state! Even though our 12 month program is very demanding and rigorous, the students are very grateful for the opportunity.
Distance Education has many advantages such as time flexibility and availability, as well
as, convenience. However, on-line learning has it’s demands on both the student and the teacher.
Teachers are required to do a lot of course prep work and “front-loading” of course content, assignments and exams =Before= the course goes “live” and is available to the student. Students must be very self-motivated and organized to make sure they study and prepare adequately and complete assignments and tests by designated deadlines. On day one, program rules over Academic Integrity, online ethics and online netiquette are discussed and are constantly reviewed and enforced.
All in all, I believe on-line DE is fantastic educational format and is here to stay. As Educators, we need to focus on using on-line DE as a tool to enhance and enrich learning as an extension of us, the teachers, not as
a substitute for us.
In ED 588, I wrote papers and created Help Sheets that would
assist students with different needs, learning styles and learning abilities be
successful in using different tools on the computer such as Narrator,
Windows 8 and Magnifier.
Some of my projects are listed here:

An assignment in ED 486, asked students to elaborate on how technology can help teaching and learning, how technology could hinder students learning and our belief of how technology should be used schools. A link to the entire document is posted below.

ED 584 Final Reflective Paper:
Multimedia in Education
In ED 584, one major component was to compile the information on all of
the different multimedia tools we learned about and used in this course to
create a final reflective paper on Multimedia in Education and how we plan to
implement the tools in our classroom.
